This is a new set of shirts that I created based on Japanese Mon (Family Crests). A few are recreations of old family crests from Japan, but most are my own designs based off of similar themes used in traditional Mon. All of these shirts are available at my RedBubble store front.
This is a simple font design that I drew up on paper some time ago. The font is designed with a modern, san-serif look based on the Cyrillic alphabet, which consists of 33 characters. This design was never turned into a usable font on the computer.
This piece was originally constructed as a splash page submission for the online graphics website graphic-elements.com. The work is entitled Courage/Freedom and I think that this piece more than others really embodies its name visually. From subject matter to color scheme, the name for this design came to me easily and seemed to fit perfectly.
I created this identity some time ago for a local computer hardware store. Kept a tech feel incorporated with the flow of movement and speed that has a great importance within the computer world (always upgrading). One of the few (maybe the only) logos I have designed that incorporated an effect (the glowing red dot) but, after much deliberation, I decided that it was significant enough to incorporate (like a power light) and it made the design a bit more dynamic.
This is the branding I did for the country music singer Jonalee White (with and without her slogan). This was primarily created for the branding of her t-shirts and a stage backdrop, which I also designed.
This is a logo design I did for a Southern Ohio based campground/resort. It is very rustic, located in the middle of nowhere, nestled within 300 acres of woods and hills (a great photo spot). The grounds were recently opened and I handled all aspects of the identity and design, from signage to postage. I have included some of the works I was commissioned to put together to show the logotype in action.
A piece of work I did in honor of the Icelandic band Sigur Ros upon the release of the song Glosoli. The lyrics and other information about the band are featured on the print (in Icelandic). If you haven't heard their sound already, be sure to check them out.
This was my primary design for the Open Logo Project 1.6 hosted by Spreadshirt to find a new logo design. My idea was to use a person symbol (like you see on restrooms) to keep it general and anonymous, outfit him with a t-shirt and have a tag coming off of him that says, "Happiness." The catch phrase being, "Your Own Label." I think it turned out nicely and I explored it in several avenues as seen above. The contest had 2000+ entries (some of which were highly imaginative and skillfully executed) and my design wasn't chosen as a winner. Although it was not chosen, I had a great time designing it and enjoyed seeing the diversity in the designs that others came up with.
Did this poster design as a promo for a Halo 3 tournament a friend of mine was hosting. Art direction was totally up to me, as long as it contained the proper wheres and what times. With with a pixel based font for the information, to go along with the video game feel and choose a nice sans-serif font for the title information. I snapped the screenshot myself from an in-game video and applied some grunge/warlike effects with a muted color scheme.... The tournament was a blast.
I decided to throw in a logo design I did almost two years ago for a locally owned speaker/audio equipment store called Pylon. So, after studying speakers for a while (there form mostly) I decided I wanted to go with an areal view. After much simplification I ended up breaking the shape down into what is pretty much a rounded triangle; I then duplicated the symbol and spun them inwards to create the logomark that sits to the left of the typography. I chose to distress the logo and type to coincide with the demographic served by the store, which was agreed upon by Pylon.
This is a print I designed for fun. It features a photograph I took of my girlfriend last winter when we were outside playing around in a snow storm. It was one of the first snows of the year and we went outside to enjoy it and play with my two cats, Aslan and Silence. The extra treatment was done in Illustrator in the style of Arnaud Mercier, the French designer who I had been studying at the time.
This is a font I designed about a year ago to go along with some web based graphics I was producing at the time. I call the font Breeze as a kind of ironic name that emphasizes its geometry. Breeze is based off of a 25-square grid with characters for every letter and major symbol. Breeze is my first, and as of right now, only font creation.
The latest edition to my 'archive work' postings, Transform. I completed this work after a pretty extensive study of Michael Place's work (Build). Designed as a homage to old gaming electronics, it contains silhouettes from Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, and X-Box. The message, Transform, exemplifies the systems as a means of escape (which holds personal significance). With video games it is possible to escape the sometimes mundane realities and become something greater.
This is another archive piece which I never titled. It is a poster design that I did as a recruiting tool for the Visualist Design program at Shawnee State University. My main theme was a rainbow, which I used to symbolize a promise, and to encompass all types of people. I displayed pictures in a web (spider, not internet) layout, with pictures in each web-shoot featuring a color of the rainbow, all linked to a central hub (Visualist Design). The assignment also required the necessary courses listed somewhere on the poster. I categorized the classes and listed them below the web rainbow under color groups.
Like I said in the website update post, when I went with my all-new web design, I opted not to display many of my old works and instead focused on a select few of my best. Instead of featuring those old pieces in my portfolio, I decided to post a few of them periodically on the blog for anyone who is still interested in viewing them. The first post will be from a layout collection I call Isolated Dreams. This is actually one of the few that got chosen to stay on my portfolio page, but I only display one of the five layouts that were originally designed. Anyway, the layouts were basically just a lesson for me and haven't served any commercial purpose... I was studying Build and Muller a lot at the time of creation which is most likely evident. Hope you like them, any comments would be fantastic.
